First Lady Declares 3rd National Para Games Closed as Enugu Crowned Champions in Abuja
The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has officially declared the 3rd National Para Games closed at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, the First Lady lauded the resilience and courage of athletes from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
In her remarks, Senator Tinubu described the para athletes as ‘true heroes of our nation,’ emphasizing the need for inclusivity in sports, education, health, employment, and leadership.
She reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which ensures that no one is left behind.
The First Lady also commended the National Sports Commission (NSC) under Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko for successfully organizing the Games and driving reforms to reposition Nigerian sports.
Mallam Dikko, in his address, underscored the importance of para athletes to Nigeria’s global sporting reputation. He stressed that they deserve access to quality facilities, structured pathways, and recognition for their consistent performances on the international stage.
‘Time and again, our para athletes have shown up for Nigeria, winning laurels and bringing honour to the nation. They are among our most reliable ambassadors,’ he said.
He pledged that the NSC would continue to strengthen athlete development, improve welfare, and expand opportunities for para sports, aligning with President Tinubu’s vision of inclusiveness and shared prosperity.
The event also featured remarks from the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, who highlighted the role of sports in social reengineering, and the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, who emphasized the link between education and sports in fostering national unity.
The highlight of the closing ceremony was the presentation of the trophy to Enugu State, winners of the 3rd National Para Games, with 40 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze medals.
Bayelsa finished second, Edo third, Rivers fourth, and Lagos fifth.
