Shearer: Arsenal or Bayern Will Win Champions League

Premier League legend Alan Shearer has tipped either Arsenal or Bayern Munich to lift the Champions League trophy this season, insisting the two clubs have been the standout performers in Europe.

With the quarter‑final first legs set to kick off Tuesday, Shearer believes the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint‑Germain and Atletico Madrid are strong contenders, but not at the same level as Arsenal and Bayern.

‘I think it’ll be Arsenal or Bayern Munich that win the Champions League this year,’ Shearer told Betfair. ‘I’ve seen every team this season. I’ve been to most grounds in Europe, and those two, without doubt, have been the standout.’

Shearer acknowledged Real Madrid’s unique pedigree in the competition, noting their ability to ‘come alive’ in the spring months.

‘There’s a reason why Real Madrid have such a history in this competition, because they come alive now. Normally, come March or April, they come alive, and that’s why they’re the most successful team in the competition,’ he said.

Arsenal will first have to overcome Sporting Lisbon in their quarter‑final tie, while Bayern face Real Madrid. Should both progress, the two sides could meet in the final — a clash Shearer believes would be the highlight of the season.
