Arteta Vows Champions League Glory After Ending Arsenal’s 22-Year Premier League Title Wait

‘Now this shirt represents something else. We have an opportunity to write a new history for this club and I am convinced we are going to win the Champions League.’

Those were the words of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as he looked beyond the Premier League triumph that ended the club’s 22-year wait for the title.

Arteta, who guided the Gunners to their first league crown since the ‘Invincibles’ of 2004, declared that the next chapter must be European success.

Arsenal have never won the Champions League, with their closest attempt coming 20 years ago in 2006 when they lost the final to Barcelona in Paris.

Reflecting on the journey to domestic glory, Arteta admitted there were doubts along the way.

‘There were doubts and wondering if you are the right person to take the team all the way here. Maybe someone else has to come and have the job. We don’t need them. I feel a lot of joy and a little bit of relief.’

He praised the resilience of his squad and the challenge posed by Manchester City.

‘You raise your level because you have an opposition that always ask that question to you. In my opinion we have the best team in the history of the competition with the best manager in the world. To do it in those circumstances and in the manner we have done it… I’ve loved every minute of it.’
