Gençlerbirliği President Arda Çakmak says Henry Onyekuru is still with the club.
Speaking after the team’s 2-0 victory over Galatasaray in the Turkish Cup quarter-finals, Çakmak dismissed reports claiming the Nigerian forward had traveled to England.
He explained that Onyekuru remains under contract and is currently undergoing special training to improve his performance.
‘Onyekuru has not gone to England. He is our contracted athlete. At the moment, our coach is making him do special training just because his performance is not enough,’ Çakmak said.
He added that if Onyekuru’s progress satisfies the coaching staff, he could return to the pitch as early as next week. The statement ends speculation and confirms the player’s place in the squad as Gençlerbirliği prepares for upcoming fixtures.
