WAFU-B Leaders Celebrate as Gusau Pledges VAR Equipment Truck

Football administrators across West Africa erupted in excitement on Sunday as Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President and WAFU-B leader, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau MON, announced plans to acquire a truck dedicated to transporting Video Assistant Referee (VAR) equipment across the subregion.

The VAR technology, currently housed at WAFU-B headquarters in Abidjan, will now be made accessible to referees in all member nations for training and development.

Gusau made the pledge during the opening ceremony of a three-day CAF Women’s Football Administrators workshop in Abuja.

‘It is imperative to address the lack of adequate VAR training for our referees. With this truck, we can move the equipment to member countries, ensuring both male and female referees receive comprehensive training,’ Gusau stated.

He also urged participants, heads of women’s football from seven WAFU-B nations, to intensify grassroots development.

‘Harnessing talent from the grassroots is the only way to ensure progression from youth to senior levels,’ he said.

NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi MON encouraged attendees to absorb lessons from the workshop and return home with strategies to transform women’s football.

Executive Director of WAFU-B, Philippe Tchere, hailed Gusau’s initiative: ‘The offer of a truck to transport VAR equipment is the biggest news of the week. God bless President Gusau. God bless Nigeria.’

The workshop is facilitated by Nigeria legend Precious Dede, alongside CAF instructors Jules McGeever (England) and Thuba Sibanda (Zimbabwe).
