Adeshina Retains Spot in Bowerman Race, Eyes Historic Nigerian Milestone

Nigerian high jump sensation Temitope Adeshina has once again secured her place on the prestigious Bowerman Women’s Watch List, reaffirming her status as one of the brightest stars in collegiate athletics.

Adeshina has been in dominant form this season. She remains undefeated in the high jump, highlighted by her 1.95m victory at the Mt. SAC Relays, where she claimed her first career win over Vashti Cunningham, a 16-time USATF champion.

Earlier this year, she clinched her second consecutive NCAA Division I Indoor title with a clearance of 1.97m, a mark that ties her for No. 5 on the all-time collegiate indoor list and No. 4 outdoors.

This marks her fourth career Watch List appearance, underscoring her consistency and elite standing in the sport.

From a Nigerian perspective, Adeshina’s achievement carries historic weight. She is now in contention to become only the second Nigerian woman ever to reach the Bowerman Final Three, and potentially the first Nigerian, man or woman, to win the award outright when it is presented in December at the USTFCCCA Convention in Grapevine, Texas.

The Bowerman is the highest honor in collegiate track and field, and Adeshina’s continued excellence puts Nigeria on the global stage.
