Abuja to Host 2026 CAC Para-Track & Track Championships
Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, is gearing up to host the 2026 Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) double championships, the 3rd Para-Track and 12th Track African Championships , scheduled for May 9-17 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome.
According to Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) Secretary General Joel Akinluwa, the Para-Track event will run from May 9-11, followed by the Track Championship from May 13-17.
So far, six countries, South Africa, Kenya, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Benin Republic, have confirmed participation, alongside host nation Nigeria.
South Africa will field 27 cyclists, Kenya 21, Algeria 21, and Zimbabwe 5, while Ghana and Benin Republic are yet to finalize their team sizes.
Team Nigeria’s official list will be released shortly, following recent national trials at the velodrome.
Technical Director of the CFN, Bashir Mohammed, revealed that Nigeria will present 17 cyclists in the Para-Track event.
For the Track Championship, the team will feature 10 elite men, 6 elite women, 6 junior boys, 6 junior girls, 6 B-Class cyclists (3 male and 3 female), and 5 cyclists in the C1-5 categories.
Mohammed commended the National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko for approving the championship budget, assuring stakeholders of a hitch-free event.
