Basketball Africa League and Qatar Foundation Launch Multiyear Social Impact Partnership
The Basketball Africa League (BAL) has announced a landmark collaboration with Qatar Foundation, making the non-profit organization the league’s first Official Community Partner.
The multiyear partnership, facilitated by Qatar Sports Investments, will expand BAL’s social impact programming and court development initiatives across Africa.
Qatar Foundation will support projects such as court renovations under NBA Africa’s commitment to build 1,000 courts continent-wide, and BAL4HER, the league’s platform for advancing gender equality in African sports.
The Foundation will also serve as Presenting Partner of the Ubuntu Trophy, awarded annually to a BAL player who makes a significant impact in their local community.
Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, emphasized the transformative role of sport: ‘We see sport as one of the most powerful tools for positive change. It brings people together, creating bonds across backgrounds and building communities around shared purpose.’
BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall welcomed the partnership, noting: ‘Qatar Foundation shares our commitment to giving back to the youth, fans and communities that support the BAL year-round.’
Beginning this season, Qatar Foundation is backing BAL4HER Power Hours in each host city, connecting young women pursuing careers in sports with leading executives through mentorship, networking, and immersive programming.
Meanwhile, the 2026 BAL season continues with Playoffs and Finals in Kigali, Rwanda from May 22–31, featuring eight qualified teams: Petro de Luanda (Angola), Al Ahly (Egypt), RSSB Tigers (Rwanda), Club Africain (Tunisia), Al Ahly Ly (Libya), FUS Rabat (Morocco), ASC Ville de Dakar (Senegal), and Dar City (Tanzania).
