O’Neill Admits Uncertainty Over Iheanacho’s Celtic Future

Martin O’Neill has cast doubt on the future of Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho at Celtic, admitting he cannot provide assurances about the player’s contract situation due to his own uncertain position at the club.

Iheanacho joined the Scottish champions last summer on a one-year deal, with Celtic retaining the option to extend his stay for an additional season based on performance.

The striker contributed nine goals in 24 appearances across all competitions during the 2025/26 campaign.

Speaking to The Scotsman, O’Neill revealed that Iheanacho has repeatedly sought clarity on his future.

‘Iheanacho keeps asking me! ‘What do you think, are they going to keep me on?’ I have no idea, mate. Don’t ask me, I am not the manager anymore,’ O’Neill said.

‘This morning again, he stopped me in the lift. ‘Are you staying on?’ I have no idea, can you just concentrate on the game this afternoon.’
