Vinícius Jr. Focused on Brazil’s World Cup Quest, Defers Real Madrid Talks
On the eve of Brazil’s opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Real Madrid forward Vinícius Jr. addressed the media, making clear that his immediate priority is leading the Seleção, not his club future.
Brazil, drawn into Group C, will begin their campaign against Morocco on Saturday, June 14, before facing Haiti on June 19 and Scotland on June 24.
Vinícius, widely regarded as one of Carlo Ancelotti’s untouchables, enters the tournament in peak form and with the responsibility of being one of Brazil’s leaders.
‘It’s a very important and special role to represent my family and my country at a World Cup, where I’ve always dreamed of playing,’ Vinícius said.
‘I just want to take advantage of the opportunity and show everyone that we can become champions.’
Reflecting on lessons from the 2022 World Cup, the forward emphasized the importance of focus and preparation: ‘Small details will determine your path in the tournament. I hope we can do things differently this time and come out on top in those key moments.’
When asked about his Real Madrid contract extension, Vinícius was unequivocal: ‘Right now I’m focused on the national team. I’ll discuss everything related to Real Madrid after the World Cup.’
As for Brazil’s ambitions, the forward was direct: ‘We’re here to win the title. We’re at the level of the top national teams and the best squads in the world. At the World Cup, everything starts from zero. We’re here to make history.’
