Uruguay’s World Cup preparations have been thrown into turmoil after their team plane was denied entry into the United States due to regulatory issues.
La Celeste, based at the Mayakoba complex in Cancún, were scheduled to fly to Miami ahead of their opening match against Saudi Arabia.
However, the aircraft designated for the delegation reportedly lacked documentation required under U.S. aviation regulations, leaving Marcelo Bielsa’s squad stranded.
The Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) is working urgently with FIFA to secure alternative arrangements. Officials have until 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time to ensure the team lands in the U.S. before the deadline for tournament entry.
