‘We Came Here to Make History’: Amad Diallo Urges Focus After Ivory Coast Victory

Amad Diallo has called for continued focus after scoring the decisive goal in Ivory Coast’s 1-0 triumph over Ecuador in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Manchester United winger came off the bench to break the deadlock in a tense encounter at Philadelphia Stadium, where both sides struck the woodwork four times before Diallo’s late intervention sealed the win.
Speaking to FIFA.com after the match, the 22-year-old expressed satisfaction with the result but emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum.
‘We needed that. We came here to make history. We still have two more matches ahead of us, and we need to approach them with the same mentality and try to win them,’ Diallo said.
He added that Ivory Coast had to remain composed against a physically strong Ecuadorian side, noting: ‘They caused us problems, of course, but we stayed composed and remained focused.’
