El-Kanemi Warriors and Wikki Tourists Clash in President Federation Cup Semi-Final
Nasarawa United Return to Benin for Semi-Final Showdown Against Ikorodu City
The Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina will host a fiery President Federation Cup semi-final on Wednesday as former champions El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri face off against Wikki Tourists of Bauchi.
El-Kanemi Warriors, three-time winners of Nigeria’s most prestigious domestic football trophy, first claimed glory in 1991 and 1992, defeating Kano Pillars and Stationery Stores respectively.
Their most recent triumph came two years ago, when midfielder Nasiru Salihu inspired the team past Abia Warriors in Lagos.
Wikki Tourists, meanwhile, are chasing a return to glory after their sole triumph in 1998, when they edged Plateau United on penalties in Kaduna.
Their path to the last four this year has seen them eliminate Jigawa Golden Stars Jnr, Bayelsa United, Kada Warriors, and Flight FC.
El-Kanemi Warriors booked their semi-final place by overcoming Krusaders FC, Akwa United, Bendel Insurance, and Sokoto United.
The second semi-final will be staged at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, where Nasarawa United, runners-up in 2021, will meet Ikorodu City.
Nasarawa United return to the venue of their painful penalty shootout defeat to Bayelsa United in the 2021 final, determined to rewrite history.
Ikorodu City, who narrowly missed out on a continental ticket in the Nigeria Premier Football League this season, are equally motivated.
The Lagos side fell at the semi-final stage last year but have impressed in this campaign, knocking out Gaa Akanbi, Jigawa Golden Stars, Enyimba FC, and Barau FC.
