NFRA Congratulates FIFA Referee Yemisi Akintoye Ahead of WAFCON 2026

The Nigeria Football Referees Association (NFRA) has extended heartfelt congratulations to FIFA woman referee, Yemisi Akintoye, following her successful completion of the Medical and Physical Fitness Test conducted by the CAF Referees Committee ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026.

Akintoye, one of Africa’s distinguished female FIFA referees, was invited to participate in the Pre-Tournament qualification programme.

Her achievement marks another milestone in her officiating career and underscores Nigeria’s growing presence in continental football refereeing.

Before her departure, Acting President of NFRA, Sir Kelechi Mejuobi, personally reached out to Akintoye, offering words of encouragement and assuring her of the association’s unwavering support.

The NFRA expressed pride in her accomplishment and urged her to serve as a worthy ambassador for Nigeria when the competition begins.

The association recalled that Akintoye had earlier undergone the CAF Elite A programme, after which she was selected for the WAFCON Pre-Tournament Programme by the continental body.

She departed Nigeria on Wednesday to join preparations for the championship.
