Desabre: Congo DR Gains Experience Despite Defeat

Congo DR head coach Sébastien Desabre has expressed disappointment after his team’s recent defeat, but insists the experience will serve as a vital stepping stone in the nation’s football development.

‘We’re disappointed because we really believed we could do it. We played well. Towards the end of the match, we conceded two chances and one of the world’s best players scored two goals against us. It’s a shame,’ Desabre said after the game.

Despite the setback, the French tactician praised his players’ performance and highlighted the lessons learned from competing against elite opposition.

‘We must congratulate the players on their performance. They’ve gained a lot of experience from playing against teams like this. That’s how football in the Congo DR is built: we may have lacked a little experience, but that’s the nature of the game. We’re learning, and we’re continuing to improve. We’ll carry on, calmly,’ he added.

Desabre emphasized that the match underscored both the progress and the challenges facing Congo DR football.

While acknowledging the disappointment of the result, he stressed that the team’s growth trajectory remains intact, with the focus now on building resilience and sharpening competitive edge for future tournaments.
