Barcola: Les Bleus Ready for Paraguay Challenge in Philadelphia

France forward Bradley Barcola has expressed confidence that Les Bleus’ attacking trio can unlock Paraguay’s compact defence when the two sides meet in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 on Saturday.

France have been in scintillating form, winning all four of their matches so far, scoring 13 goals and conceding only two.

Captain Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé and Barcola have accounted for 12 of those goals, a testament to their fluid attacking partnership.

‘I enjoy immensely playing like that,’ Barcola told reporters on Thursday. ‘We pass, attack and defend together. These are great players and that is why it works so well. It is a joy to play together.’

France eased into the knockout stage with a 3-0 victory over Sweden, while Paraguay stunned four-time champions Germany with a dramatic 4-3 win on penalties.

Barcola acknowledged the challenge posed by Paraguay’s defensive organisation but insisted France would find solutions.

‘We know it will be complicated. We have to find alternatives and we will do that. I hope it keeps working well for us until the end,’ he said.

Saturday’s match will be played in Philadelphia, where temperatures are expected to exceed 36 degrees Celsius.

Barcola admitted the heat could be draining but noted the squad had adapted to the warm conditions during the weeks-long tournament in North America.
