Benjamin Fredrick Sets Sights on EPL Debut After Brentford Promotion

Nigeria international Benjamin Fredrick has expressed his delight after signing a new four-year contract with Brentford and earning promotion to the club’s first-team squad, describing the achievement as a proud moment for himself and his family.

The 21-year-old defender, who initially joined the Premier League club on loan in August 2023 before completing a permanent move, said Brentford has played a significant role in both his football and personal development.

“It’s a great feeling. I’m happy and proud of myself, and my family are proud of me as well,” Fredrick said after putting pen to paper on his new deal.

The defender reflected on his early days at the club, admitting that adapting to life in England was challenging, but credited the support of former Brentford B head coach Neil MacFarlane, now an assistant first-team coach, for helping him settle.

“The club has helped me a lot. When I came here, I was a little bit nervous and shy. I didn’t know how to do the basics because where I’m from is a little bit different to here,” he explained.

Fredrick reserved special praise for MacFarlane, whose guidance he believes has been instrumental in his progress.

“Especially Neil when I first came here. He always encouraged me. He never shouted when I made mistakes and just told me to keep my head down and keep playing. He has helped me grow as a player and as a person as well,” he said.

Looking ahead to the new campaign, Fredrick said his focus is on continuing his development while earning the opportunity to make his senior competitive debut for the Bees.

“I just want to keep pushing and learning every single day,” he said.

“My aim is to make my debut with the first team, get Premier League minutes and give my best when I have the opportunity.”
