NFF Reaffirms Commitment to Women’s Football Development
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting programmes designed to enhance the capacity of women in football and advance the development of the girl-child.
NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi MON, made the declaration on Friday in Abuja while declaring open a three-day FIFA capacity-building workshop for women football administrators in Nigeria.
Sanusi, who conveyed the goodwill message of NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau MON, urged participants to remain focused and ensure that the knowledge gained from the programme is translated into practical action within the football space.
He stressed that the empowerment and elevation of women remain key priorities of the present NFF administration.
‘Let me start by acknowledging the FIFA representatives who are here, as well as other resource persons, including my teacher, Professor Mariam Suleiman of Ahmadu Bello University, and the Member of the NFF Executive Committee, Ms Aisha Falode.
‘We are very delighted to have all of you here to help improve the capacity of our women football administrators. The present NFF administration, headed by Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau MON, is very passionate about the issue of women empowerment,’ Sanusi said.
The NFF General Secretary described the workshop as timely and important, assuring that the Federation would continue to support initiatives aimed at developing women in football administration.
He, however, challenged the participants to ensure that the knowledge acquired during the programme produces tangible results.
‘You must ensure that whatever you learn here is translated to reality. How do you translate it? It is in the way and manner you comport yourself in society, and how you lead in administration,’ he said.
Sanusi also highlighted a number of women-focused programmes previously supported by the NFF, including the CAF D Coaching Course, the CAF C-License Course exclusively for women and the recent WAFU B Women Administrators’ Programme.
The FIFA-facilitated workshop is designed to equip women football administrators with modern tools and knowledge in governance, competition management, marketing and the overall development of the women’s game in Nigeria.
The programme forms part of FIFA’s broader commitment to strengthening the capacity of its Member Associations and supporting the growth of women’s football at all levels.
