‘Agent Went AWOL’: Wage Dispute Scuppered Iheanacho’s Celtic Return

Kelechi Iheanacho was reportedly set to return to Celtic before a dispute over wages brought the proposed deal to an end, paving the way for the Nigerian forward to join Turkish side Bursaspor.

According to a report by the Herald, Iheanacho had initially agreed to re-join the Scottish Premiership champions after talks with the club.

‘Iheanacho had agreed to re-join Celtic after talks with the club,’ the report stated.

However, the proposed reunion eventually collapsed after disagreements emerged over the financial terms of the contract.

The situation was further complicated when Iheanacho’s agent reportedly ‘went AWOL’ after initially accepting Celtic’s contract offer, leaving negotiations unresolved.

‘His agent went AWOL after initially accepting the contract offer,’ the report added.

With the Celtic move unable to be completed, Iheanacho ultimately opted for a new challenge in Turkey, signing for Bursaspor.

The 29-year-old Nigerian had joined Celtic last summer on a one-year contract with an option for a further year, but the extension clause expired in June.
