Flying Eagles Thrash Ghana 4-2 to Go Top of WAFU B U20 Group B

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles made a flying start to their WAFU B U20 Championship campaign on Monday with an impressive 4-2 victory over arch-rivals Ghana to take an early lead in Group B.

The defending champions struck first through Olayemi Ayinla in the sixth minute before Mohammed Zaidan restored parity for Ghana midway through the first half.

Nigeria quickly regained control as Lucky Oraro’s deflected free-kick restored their lead in the 30th minute, while Muiz Adeleke calmly converted a penalty eight minutes later to give the Flying Eagles a commanding 3-1 advantage at the interval.

Ghana reduced the deficit after Kelvin Nkrumah converted a penalty in the 60th minute, but the Flying Eagles withstood sustained pressure before sealing victory late in the game.

Adeleke, who had earlier missed a clear chance, made no mistake from the penalty spot in the 89th minute to complete his brace and wrap up a deserved 4-2 win, handing coach Abdu Maikaba’s side the perfect start to their quest to retain the regional title.
