Team Nigeria finished Day Seven of competition at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games as Africa’s highest-ranked nation, sitting fifth overall on the medal table with seven gold, five silver and two bronze medals.
Nigeria’s impressive haul of 14 medals puts the country ahead of all other African nations, with South Africa occupying sixth place after collecting six gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals for a total of 22 medals. Malaysia is seventh with six gold medals, while India, New Zealand and Jamaica complete the top 10.
Australia continues to dominate the overall standings with 47 gold, 21 silver and 35 bronze medals, giving the Oceania powerhouse a total of 103 medals.
Canada is second with 14 gold medals and 39 overall medals, while England sits third with 12 gold, 27 silver and 17 bronze medals. Host nation Scotland occupies fourth place with nine gold medals and 23 medals overall.
Nigeria’s rise to the top of the African standings has been powered by outstanding performances in para athletics, athletics and weightlifting, highlighted on Wednesday by Goodness Nwachukwu’s world-record gold medal in the women’s Para discus throw, which delivered the country’s seventh gold medal of the Games and strengthened Team Nigeria’s position as Africa’s leading nation heading into the closing stages of Glasgow 2026.
