CAF Appoints Nigeria’s Yemisi Akintoye for Senegal vs Kenya WAFCON Clash

The Nigeria Football Referees’ Association (NFRA) has congratulated FIFA referee Yemisi Akintoye following her appointment by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to officiate Thursday’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Group Stage match between Senegal and Kenya.

Akintoye, who served as fourth official in the tournament’s opening match, has now been entrusted with the centre referee role for the encounter scheduled to kick off at 6:00 p.m. local time, with CAF appointing other match officials to assist her.

Reacting to the appointment, NFRA Acting President, Sir Kelechi Mejuobi, described it as another significant milestone for Nigerian refereeing and a reflection of the growing recognition of the country’s match officials on the international stage.

Mejuobi said Akintoye’s selection by CAF underscores her competence and consistency, expressing confidence that she and her officiating team would discharge their duties professionally. He also wished the Nigerian referee and her colleagues a successful outing in the highly anticipated fixture.
