CAF Congress: Five-Man Team Inspects Nigeria’s Facilities Ahead of 2026 Events
A five-man delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has arrived in Abuja to inspect facilities proposed by Nigeria to host the organisation’s 48th Ordinary General Assembly and the annual CAF Awards ceremony.
The inspection follows approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for Nigeria to host the two major CAF events after CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe made the request at the Africa Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, two months ago.
The CAF team is led by Dr Christian Emeruwa, the confederation’s Head of Safety and Security, and includes specialists covering technology, travel and accommodation, transport and branding.
The delegation inspected the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Friday and is scheduled to visit the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, which has been designated for the CAF Congress, as well as the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
The team will then travel to Lagos on Sunday to inspect the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, selected to host the CAF Awards, alongside Murtala Muhammed International Airport and EKO Hotel and Suites.
Nigeria has previously hosted the CAF Congress on two occasions, in 1980 and 2009. The NFF team coordinating the inspection comprises Director of Media and Communications Ademola Olajire, Director of Marketing Alizor Chuks, Head of Security Barnabas Joro, Chief Protocol Officer Emmanuel Ayanbunmi and Head of ICT Tasiu Riskuwa Shehu.
