Iniesta Backs Osimhen as Ideal Lewandowski Successor at Barcelona

Barcelona legend Andrés Iniesta has thrown his support behind a potential move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, describing the Galatasaray star as the ideal long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Speaking on a television programme, Iniesta questioned Barcelona’s use of teenage sensation Lamine Yamal as a central striker and insisted the Catalan giants should prioritise signing a natural No. 9 if they are to strengthen their attack.

“Lamine Yamal is a great player, but I wouldn’t prefer him to play as a number nine,” Iniesta said. “If Ferran Torres leaves, I would definitely recommend Deco to sign a centre-forward.

‘I don’t think Atletico Madrid will let Julián Álvarez leave, so I would suggest Victor Osimhen. He is a fantastic goalscorer and one of the best replacements for Robert Lewandowski.”

Osimhen has established himself as one of Europe’s most prolific forwards since joining Galatasaray.

The Nigeria international has scored 59 goals and provided 16 assists in 74 appearances for the Turkish champions, underlining the clinical finishing and all-round attacking qualities that have continued to attract interest from several of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The 27-year-old remains under contract with Galatasaray until 2029, meaning any club hoping to secure his signature would likely have to negotiate a significant transfer fee with the Turkish champions.
