‘No More Excuses’: NPFL Takes Domestic Football Live to YouTube

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has entered a landmark partnership with Murphy Ben International (MBI) to take selected league matches live to fans through YouTube, in a major push to transform the way Nigerian domestic football is consumed, promoted and commercialised.

The partnership, unveiled at a special signing ceremony, will provide fans with access to selected live matches and delayed broadcasts in HD through the official NPFL YouTube channel, allowing supporters to watch games on mobile phones, televisions, laptops and other internet-enabled devices.

NPFL Chairman Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye described the agreement as the realisation of the league’s vision to bring matches closer to supporters, declaring: ‘There will be no more excuses of ‘I didn’t see the match.’’

The agreement followed weeks of discussions between the NPFL and MBI, including meetings in Abuja and a visit to MBI’s headquarters in Lagos.

Elegbeleye said the partnership goes beyond match streaming, with the digital strategy expected to create new revenue opportunities, increase the visibility of clubs and players, strengthen commercial prospects and give NPFL football a global audience.

He said MBI’s digital and technical expertise would support improved production and distribution while helping the league tell the stories behind its clubs, players, coaches and supporters. The initiative is also aimed at giving NPFL players greater international exposure and making Nigerian domestic football more accessible to fans around the world.

MBI Chairman Murphy Anawana said the company would deploy its production capabilities and extended social media reach to help position the NPFL as ‘number one in Africa.’

He described the partnership as an opportunity to tell the story of Nigerian domestic football to a global audience and showcase the league’s clubs, players, coaches and supporters.

Under the new arrangement, multiple NPFL matches will receive live coverage or delayed broadcasts during matchdays through the league’s official YouTube channel, marking a significant new chapter in the digital presentation and commercialisation of Nigerian football.
