NPFL Slams Abia Warriors With ₦3.25m Fine, Suspends Igwe For Five Matches

Club Sanctioned Over Security Breach And Attempt To Disrupt Live Broadcast Against Niger Tornadoes

Abia Warriors have been fined ₦3.25 million by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for security breaches and an attempt to disrupt the live broadcast of their Matchday 10 fixture against Niger Tornadoes on Sunday.

The league charged the Umuahia-based club with breaching the NPFL 2026/2027 Framework and Rules after failing to provide adequate security as agreed at the pre-match technical meeting.

An official of Abia Warriors also attempted to disrupt the live broadcast by harassing a crew member of the league’s broadcast partner, engaging in conduct the NPFL said was capable of bringing the game into disrepute.

Abia Warriors were fined ₦1 million for failing to provide adequate security as agreed at the technical meeting, while another ₦2 million fine was imposed for attempting to disrupt the live broadcast.

The club must also pay ₦250,000 in compensation to the affected broadcast crew member to cover the cost of treatment for the injury sustained during the incident.

In addition to the club’s financial sanctions, Abia Warriors multimedia officer, Chidera Favour Igwe, has been suspended from all NPFL activities for five matches, both home and away.

The league imposed the suspension for Igwe’s alleged attempt to disrupt the live broadcast and harassment of a crew member of its broadcast partner.

Abia Warriors have 48 hours, within the stipulated working-day period from the date of the notice, to appeal the sanctions.
