Grassrunners Rally to Beat Doma United in Gold Cup Opener

Grassrunners FC produced a stunning comeback to defeat Doma United 2-1 in the Gold Cup pre-season tournament at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.

Doma United made a flying start, taking the lead as early as the second minute through Fantami Yusuf after capitalising on defensive uncertainty from Grassrunners.

The early goal set the tone for a first half dominated by Doma United, who went into the interval with their advantage intact.

Grassrunners returned after the break with renewed purpose and were rewarded in the 73rd minute when Adeola Fadel headed home from a set-piece to level the scores.

Doma United’s task became even more difficult after Elumon Christian was sent off, leaving Grassrunners with a numerical advantage.

The pressure eventually told in added time when Musa Lasisi struck the decisive goal to complete the comeback and hand Grassrunners a memorable 2-1 victory.

Earlier, Stormers SC and Dokkal Khairu played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in a four-goal thriller.

Dokkal Khairu took the lead in the eighth minute through Yusuff Sulaiman, but Stormers SC quickly responded through Isa Obajumo.

Adewale Ademola then put Stormers ahead just before half-time.

Dokkal Khairu fought back in the second half and secured a share of the points after Adeosun Dauda calmly converted a late penalty to make it 2-2.
