Osimhen Strikes Twice to Save Galatasaray from Shock Opening Defeat, Sends Early Golden Boot Warning

Victor Osimhen rescued Galatasaray from a shock defeat in their opening match of the 2026/27 Turkish Super Lig season, scoring twice as the champions were held to a 2-2 draw by newcomers Corum FK at Rams Park.

The Nigerian striker, who continues to attract interest from several major European clubs, put Galatasaray ahead in the 53rd minute, finishing from a Lucas Torreira assist.

However, the lead lasted only six minutes before Corum FK levelled, with the visitors then completing a remarkable turnaround by taking the lead in the 61st minute.

With Galatasaray staring at an embarrassing defeat in their title defence, Osimhen came to the rescue deep into stoppage time, firing home the equaliser in the 90th minute from a Gabriel Sara assist to secure a point for the hosts.

The brace took Osimhen’s Galatasaray tally to 61 goals in 75 appearances since joining the club from Napoli on loan in the 2024/25 season, underlining his remarkable scoring record in Turkey.

The Nigeria international has also made an early statement in his bid to reclaim the Super Lig Golden Boot after relinquishing the award last season.

His latest performance continues an impressive personal trend, as this is the second time in three seasons that Osimhen has scored in Galatasaray’s opening league match.

The first time he achieved the feat, during the 2024/25 campaign, Osimhen went on to finish the season as the Super Lig’s leading scorer with 26 goals.

With the 2026/27 campaign only beginning, Osimhen has already reminded his rivals that he intends to be at the forefront of the race for the Golden Boot once again.
