FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup: Nigeria Favoured To Bounce Back Against Hungary Despite Opening Defeat
Nigeria’s D’Tigress will look to bounce back from their opening-day defeat to South Korea when they face Hungary in their second Group B game at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin on Saturday.
Despite suffering a 99-81 defeat to South Korea in their opening match, Nigeria remain overwhelming favourites in FIBA’s official Game Predictor for the Hungary clash, with 88% of 849 votes backing the African champions compared with 12% for Hungary.
Nigeria kept the game close through the first three quarters, trailing 26-22 after the first, 48-45 at half-time and 68-62 after the third, before South Korea pulled away in the final period with a 31-19 advantage.
The result means D’Tigress must now respond quickly against Hungary, with a victory crucial to their hopes of progressing from Group B.
The game is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. local time in Berlin (12:15 p.m. Nigerian time) at the Berlin Arena. FIBA’s tournament profile had identified the Hungary fixture as one Nigeria needed to target after their opening meeting with South Korea.
