NPFL Week 2: Doma United Stay Perfect, Pillars, Plateau United Bounce Back

Doma United maintained their perfect start to the Nigeria Premier Football League season on Saturday, while Kano Pillars, Plateau United and Nasarawa United all secured their first victories of the campaign as Matchweek 2 produced several significant results across the country.

Doma United followed up their opening-day victory over Sporting Lagos with a 1-0 win against another Lagos-based side, Inter Lagos, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. Rilwan Sadiq scored the decisive goal in the 71st minute to hand the visitors maximum points and make it two wins from two.

For NPFL newcomers Inter Lagos, it was another frustrating outing after their 2-1 defeat to Shooting Stars in their historic topflight debut last weekend.

Kano Pillars also opened their winning account with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Niger Tornadoes in a five-goal northern derby at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

The Sai Masu Gida, who had drawn 2-2 with Kwara United on the opening day, raced into a 3-0 lead through Ubong Friday and Fabian Nworie, who scored twice. Nworie was subsequently named the SWAN Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.

Niger Tornadoes staged a late fightback through Nafiu and Wasiu Jimoh, but Pillars held on to claim all three points and celebrate their first victory of the season.

Plateau United likewise bounced back from their opening-day defeat in Port Harcourt, edging Kwara United 1-0 at the Jos International Stadium. Alex Aghahowa scored the only goal of the encounter shortly before the half-hour mark, leaving Kwara United still searching for their first win after two matches.

Nasarawa United also registered their first three points with a 1-0 home victory over Bendel Insurance at the Lafia Township Stadium. Sam Pam struck in the 55th minute to settle the contest and give the Solid Miners a much-needed boost.

In Owerri, Kun Khalifat were held to a goalless draw by Barau FC, leaving the hosts still without a win after two matches. Kun Khalifat had also played out a 0-0 draw with Abia Warriors on the opening weekend, while Barau maintained their unbeaten start after winning their first game of the season.
