Kida Hails Tinubu Over Prompt Payment of D’Tigress Rewards

President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Musa Kida, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the prompt payment of financial rewards to members of D’Tigress and their officials following their triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship.

Kida described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to sports development and athletes’ welfare.

The NBBF president said the timely release of the rewards would serve as further motivation for D’Tigress and other national teams to continue striving for success at continental and global competitions.

He also called on corporate organisations and other stakeholders to emulate the President’s support by increasing their investment in Nigerian sports.

‘The prompt payment of the rewards shows that the welfare of our athletes is a priority for this administration. This kind of support will inspire our athletes and motivate other national teams to aim for greater achievements,’ Kida said.

D’Tigress captain also expressed the team’s appreciation to President Tinubu for fulfilling the reward pledge.

‘We are more than grateful to Mr. President, the First Lady, and the leadership of the National Sports Commission, led by the Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade,’ she said.

Kida reaffirmed the NBBF’s commitment to building on D’Tigress’ success and ensuring that the team continues to bring more honours to Nigeria.

He stressed that sustained government and private-sector investment would be crucial to maintaining Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s basketball.
