NFF Mourns Coach Christopher Alor, Member of Historic 2010 Falconets Crew

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has mourned the death of respected coach Christopher Alor, a member of the technical crew of the Falconets team that won Nigeria’s first FIFA Women’s World Cup silver medal in 2010.

Alor died at the age of 75.

The experienced tactician was part of the coaching crew that prepared the Falconets for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Germany, where Nigeria reached the final for the first time.

The Falconets drew with England and Mexico and defeated Japan in the group stage before overcoming a major hurdle in the quarter-finals against the United States, only to lose on penalties.

Nigeria then defeated Colombia 1-0 in the semi-finals to secure a historic place in the final, where they lost 0-2 to hosts Germany.

Despite the final defeat, the achievement remains a landmark in Nigerian women’s football history, as the Falconets became the first Nigeria women’s national team to reach a FIFA World Cup final and win a silver medal.

The NFF said Alor made significant contributions to Nigerian football, particularly through his work with young players and the national teams.

‘The NFF mourns deeply the demise of Coach Christopher Alor, for his contributions to Nigerian football, especially his work with young players and his involvement with the national team,’ NFF Acting General Secretary Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme said on Monday.

‘His time with the national team was significant in that Nigeria attained a historic feat of earning the FIFA World Cup silver medals in Germany in 2010.

‘We pray that God grants his soul eternal rest, and also grants those he has left behind, including his immediate family, friends and the young players that he loved to work with, the fortitude to bear the loss.’
