Euromatch NPFL: Doma United, Rivers United Put Perfect NPFL Records On Line
Doma United and Rivers United will put their perfect starts to the Euromatch NPFL season on the line this weekend as the league enters another round of fixtures, with several clubs also desperate for their first victories of the campaign.
League leaders Doma United are the only side yet to drop a point after three matches and face another test when they travel to Kano Pillars.
The Gombe-based club have won all three of their games, scoring five goals and conceding none, with their latest success a 2-0 home victory over Enyimba.
Kano Pillars, however, are also unbeaten after two matches. They have four points from a win and a draw and will hope to end Doma United’s winning run at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Rivers United are another side enjoying a perfect start, having won both of their matches. The Port Harcourt club moved onto six points after beating Warri Wolves 2-0 in their outstanding fixture and will now visit Nasarawa United looking to maintain their 100 per cent record.
Nasarawa United have won one and lost two of their three matches and will be seeking a second victory of the season against a Rivers United side still dealing with the disappointment of their CAF Champions League elimination.
In Jos, Shooting Stars will return to NPFL action following their elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup last weekend when they face Plateau United.
The Oluyole Warriors have played only one league match and won it, beating Inter Lagos, and coach Salisu Yusuf will be looking for a positive response from his players as they switch their attention back to domestic football.
Plateau United have four points from three matches, with one win, one draw and one defeat, and will be looking to strengthen their position with another home victory.
There will also be a battle between two teams still searching for their first win when Enyimba host Inter Lagos in Aba. Enyimba have lost both of their league matches, while Inter Lagos have suffered three defeats in their first three games since making their NPFL debut.
Both sides are therefore without a point and will see the encounter as an opportunity to kick-start their respective campaigns.
In Owerri, newly promoted Kun Khalifat will also be chasing their first victory when they welcome defending champions Enugu Rangers. Kun Khalifat have collected two points from three matches, drawing twice before losing to Bendel Insurance last weekend.
Rangers, who have four points from two matches, will arrive with a busy schedule behind them, having combined their domestic commitments with CAF Champions League football and an outstanding league fixture against Nasarawa United.
Sporting Lagos will attempt to build on their impressive 3-0 victory over city rivals Inter Lagos when they host Abia Warriors. Sporting have three points from two matches, while Abia Warriors have two points from three games and are still searching for their first victory.
Warri Wolves will also be looking to open their points account when they host Kwara United. The Delta club have lost both of their matches and sit near the bottom of the table, while Kwara United have four points from three games after recording one win, one draw and one defeat.
