Enoch Adegoke: ‘I will not be defeated and I will not quit” 

Former Nigeria and National Sports Festival 100m champion, Enoch Adegoke is confident he will surely get back to form after his two failed attempts to defend the two titles he won within the last 24 months.

Adegoke won his first Nigeria 100m title and was crowned the National Sports Festival speed king last year in Lagos and Benin city respectively.

The form propelled the 22 year old to qualify to run in the 100m events at the Olympics as a home based athlete.

In Tokyo at the quadrennial Games, he made history as the first Nigerian man in 25 years to qualify for and run in the final of the blue ribband race.

Adegoke moved out of the blocks like lightning and was in good shape to make the podium before he got injured after 40m and he has not regained his form since then.

At the 21st National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta state last week, Adegoke barely managed to make the 100m final before finishing sixth at the end of the race.

With tongues already wagging after his latest failed attempts with some concluding he will never regain the form that drove him to the Olympics final, Adegoke has assured he is not finished yet.

‘I will not be defeated and I will not quit,’ the 22 year old wrote on his Facebook page.

Adegoke will be seeking to regain his Nigeria 100m title which he lost in June to 20 year old Favour Ashe in addition to getting the 10.10 seconds 100m qualification standard for the Budapest 2023 World Athletics Championships.

Adegoke is yet to run in the individual event at World Athletics flagship event after taking part in the 4x100m relay event at the Doha World Championships. The team was disqualified in the final of the event.

The former African U20 100m champion will also be looking forward to running in the African Games and succeed his compatriot, Raymond Ekevwo as 100m king.
