Abdulrahman Charges Rangers To Seal CAF Champions League Group-Stage Ticket

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Chief Operating Officer Dr Ayo Abdulrahman has charged Rangers International to withstand the pressure in Algeria and secure qualification for the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

Abdulrahman gave the charge after congratulating the Nigerian champions on their 2-0 first-leg victory over MC Alger in Abeokuta, where he was present to support the country’s representatives.

He praised Rangers for their determination to secure victory despite being reduced to 10 men, describing the two-goal advantage as a deserved reward for the efforts of the players and their management.

‘Rangers players showed determination to win even when they were one player down, and winning by two goals was a befitting reward for the hardworking players and managers of the team,’ Abdulrahman said.

Rangers will travel to Algeria for Friday’s return leg, hoping to protect their advantage and advance to the group stage of the continent’s premier club competition.

However, Abdulrahman warned the Enugu-based side to prepare for a hostile atmosphere and remain focused regardless of the pressure from their opponents and home supporters.

‘It’s not going to be a tea party. Don’t expect them to offer you flowers. Stay focused, take the fight to them, and respond to the dictates of the game, especially when you have to defend,’ he admonished.

Rangers are seeking a place in the lucrative group stage as they aim to keep Nigeria’s four continental slots intact.

The second leg is scheduled for 8pm on Friday in Algeria, where temperatures are forecast to reach 26 degrees Celsius.
