AFCON 2025 Group Stage Best XI: Osimhen Misses Out, Lookman In, Chelle’s Best Coach
The biggest talking point from the Africa Cup of Nations group stage Best XI is the absence of Victor Osimhen. Nigeria’s star striker, widely regarded as one of Africa’s most feared forwards, failed to make the cut after a subdued group stage.
Instead, it was Ademola Lookman who carried the Super Eagles’ flag, earning his place as the only Nigerian player in the lineup thanks to his creativity, versatility, and decisive contributions in attack.
Adding to Nigeria’s recognition, coach Eric Chelle was named the Best XI manager of the group stage. Chelle’s tactical discipline and ability to blend defensive solidity with attacking freedom allowed Nigeria to progress with confidence, even without Osimhen firing on all cylinders.
