Aubameyang and Nsue Enter AFCON’s Oldest Goalscorers List

The group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 closed with drama, qualification battles, and a touch of history.

Among the standout moments were the goals of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Emilio Nsue, two veterans whose strikes proved that age is no barrier on Africa’s biggest stage.

While youthful talents have dominated headlines, experience also had its say. Aubameyang’s poacher’s finish for Gabon against Mozambique and Nsue’s goal for Equatorial Guinea against Algeria placed both men among the oldest scorers in AFCON history.

The AFCON has long been a tournament where seasoned players can rival youthful energy, and this edition has reinforced that tradition.

Aubameyang, at 36 years and six months, now ranks second on the all-time list, while Nsue, at 36 years and three months, joins him in the top four. They sit alongside iconic names such as Zambia’s Kalusha Bwalya and Egypt’s Hossam Hassan, who holds the record at 39 years and five months after scoring in 2006.

Though Gabon and Equatorial Guinea will not feature in the knockout rounds, their veterans have left a lasting mark.
