AFN Awaits Arrival of 400m Stars Ogazi, Onojuvwevwo in Team Nigeria Camp

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) is eagerly awaiting the arrival of two of the world’s leading 400m sensations, Samuel Ogazi and Ella Onojuvwevwo, at Team Nigeria’s Commonwealth Games training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland.

AFN Performance Director Nwachinemere Victor Okorie confirmed that the two athletes are among the expected arrivals as Nigeria continues to assemble what he described as one of the finest athletics teams ever fielded for an international competition.

Ogazi arrives in camp as the reigning world leader in the men’s 400m and Nigeria’s national record holder in the event, while Onojuvwevwo has been the world’s fastest indoor 400m runner in 2026.

The Nigerian female quartermiler is also one of only 13 athletes to have broken the 50-second barrier in the 400m so far this year, further underlining the quality of the Nigerian team heading to the Games.

‘Our training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland, is buzzing with excitement as we eagerly await the arrival of Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, and Rosemary Chukwuma,’ Okorie wrote in a Facebook update.

He said the atmosphere in camp reflected a shared sense of purpose, unity and determination to make Nigeria proud, while expressing confidence in the quality of talent assembled by the country.

Okorie also praised the National Sports Commission for its support and commitment to the welfare and preparation of Team Nigeria.

He specifically commended NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Bukola Olopade for their leadership and support of Nigerian athletics.
