Aghahowa: Osimhen One of Nigeria’s Greatest Players

Former Super Eagles striker Julius Aghahowa has hailed Victor Osimhen, describing the Galatasaray forward as one of the greatest players Nigeria has ever produced.
Osimhen reached a career milestone last weekend, scoring his 200th professional goal in Galatasaray’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Kayserispor in the Turkish Super Lig.
The achievement drew praise from Aghahowa, who himself enjoyed a distinguished career with Nigeria’s senior national team, known for his tireless work rate and relentless attitude.
Speaking to Brila FM, Aghahowa expressed admiration for Osimhen’s rise and impact, noting similarities between the striker’s style of play and his own days with the Eagles.
‘I have been a big supporter of Osimhen right from time. I have always spoken well about his dedication. He reminds me of when I used to play for the Eagles — the way he fights and struggles. Those are the attributes I like about players,’ he said.
While acknowledging Osimhen’s brilliance, Aghahowa was careful to place his achievements within the broader context of Nigerian football history.
‘When it comes to rating players, every player comes from a different generation. Different generations have players who contributed greatly to the success of the national team and to their personal careers. You can’t really compare one generation to another because each generation has its great players,’ the former Shakhtar Donetsk star explained.
He concluded by affirming Osimhen’s place among Nigeria’s finest footballers, while stressing that the 27-year-old still has more to achieve.
‘In general, I will say Osimhen is one of the greatest players to come out of Nigeria. That’s how I will summarise it. He still has a lot to achieve for himself and for the national team. If he continues this way, he can become the greatest.’
