In the aftermath of a chaotic Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchweek 8 encounter between Kano Pillars and Shooting Stars Sports Club, General Manager Ahmed Musa has issued a heartfelt apology following the unruly behavior of Kano Pillars supporters.
The incident occurred late on Sunday evening at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, when Shooting Stars were awarded a controversial late penalty that leveled the score at 1-1. The decision sparked outrage among sections of the home crowd, leading to scenes of violence and disorder that marred the closing moments of the match.
In a strongly worded statement released late Sunday night, Musa described the events as ‘heartbreaking, shameful, and completely unacceptable,’ emphasizing that the actions of the fans did not reflect the values or legacy of Kano Pillars Football Club.
‘This club has always stood for community, passion, and respect. Sadly, today, we fell far short of that standard,’ Musa said.
He extended an unreserved apology to Shooting Stars players, coaches, and supporters, as well as to match officials, NPFL board members, GTI partners, and football fans across Nigeria and beyond who witnessed the disturbing scenes.
‘Violence has no place in football. It is unacceptable, unjustifiable, and goes against everything this beautiful sport stands for,’ Musa declared.
The former Super Eagles captain assured stakeholders that Kano Pillars would cooperate fully with relevant authorities to identify and hold accountable those responsible for the disruption. He also pledged internal reforms to prevent future incidents.
Addressing the club’s loyal fanbase directly, Musa urged supporters to channel their passion through discipline and respect, not aggression.
‘This must be a turning point for us. Our love for this club can be powerful without being destructive,’ he said.
The NPFL has issued an official statement describing scene after the match appalling, assuring that players of Shooting Stars and match officials are safe.
