Ahmed Musa: ‘This will be my last AFCON’
Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has stated that the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be his last for Nigeria.
Musa, who has over 100 caps for the senior national team, the most by any player, disclosed this on Monday at the press conference ahead of Eagles opener in the competition against Egypt on Tuesday.
The Fatih Karagumruk winger played his first AFCON for Nigeria in 2013 when Nigeria won the title for the third time.
He also represented the country in 2019 when the Eagles finished third in Egypt.
“I think my first AFCON was in 2013 in South Africa, we won it. So my second AFCON was in Egypt, we ended in third position. So I think this is my last AFCON and Insha Allah, I talked to the boys, this is my last AFCON, as you can see we are ready, we are just waiting for Tuesday (January 11,2022) and Insha Allah, well end up in the final and win the cup because everyone knows the importance of winning the trophy”, he said.
The 29 year old has appeared 102 times for Nigeria, scoring 18 goals with 13 assists. He made his debut for Nigeria in September 2010 in the 2-0 defeat of Madagascar in an AFCON qualifier. He was a 75th minute substitute for Mikel Obi.
He also promised to continue to give his best to the country.
“I will always give my best when I am called up, either in the tournament or the qualifiers. I want to give my best always,” Musa stated.
