AIU tells track and field athletes they can be tested outside of their 60-minute time slot!
The eight Nigerian athletes on the World Athletics registered testing pool and many others across the globe have been told they can be tested outside the daily, 60-minute time slot, says the Athletics Integrity Unit, AIU, the body that manages all threats to the integrity of the sport of athletics.
The AIU says athletes also play an important part in protecting the integrity of track and field worldwide and must thus provide their whereabout details if they are members of the World Athletics Registered Testing Pool.
‘Providing accurate and up-to-date whereabouts is about protecting your right to clean sport. Whereabouts information gives the AIU the ability to locate athletes with no notice, which is vital for testing athletes who choose to cheat themselves by doping,’ the AIU wrote on its website.
The body has now reiterated that it will not accept any excuses from the athletes on why they are not where they have indicated they will be on their whereabouts details.
‘You can be texted at any time, also outside of your 60-minute time slot.
‘No excuses. No surprises. Be prepared for unannounced testing. It’s for your safety and the integrity of athletics,’ the AIU further wrote on its X handle.
