Ambassador Olonisakin charges Super Eagles to go for AFCON trophy
Says Nigerians in Cameroun mobilised to support team
The Nigeria ambassador to Cameroun, Abayomi Olonisakin has assured the Super Eagles of total support as they begin their bid for a fourth AFCON trophy win on Tuesday.
Olonisakin said this when he formally welcomed the senior national team of Nigeria to the Republic of Cameroun.
“I officially welcome you all to Cameroun and wants to assure you that Nigerians in Cameroun have been mobilized to come out and support you as you bid to bring glory to your father land,’ said Olonisakin who charged the team to go all the way and take the AFCON trophy back to Nigeria.
The Super Eagles arrived Garoua, Cameroun late Wednesday night and will begin their AFCON campaign against Mohammed Salah’s Egypt on January 11 (Tuesday) before playing Sudan on the 15th and Guinea-Bissau four days later. Nigeria has won the AFCON title three times with two of the triumphs coming away from home.
The Super Eagles first won the title on home ground in 1980 before winning away in Tunisia in 1994 and South Africa in 2013.
