Amusan Among 72 Athletes to Secure Diamond League Final Spots in Brussels
Nigerian Hurdles Star Books Place as Race for Diamond Trophy Enters Final Stretch
Nigeria’s world record holder Tobi Amusan is among 72 athletes who have already secured qualification for the 2026 Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels, with the battle for places entering its final stretch.
The Diamond League Final will take place on September 4 and 5, with only three meetings remaining on the Road to the Final viz Lausanne on August 21, Silesia on August 23 and Zurich on August 27.
Amusan, the women’s 100m hurdles world record holder and a three-time Diamond League champion from 2021 to 2023, has secured her place in Brussels as she bids to reclaim the Diamond Trophy.
She is among a star-studded list of athletes who have already qualified, including pole vault world record holder Mondo Duplantis, Kenya’s 800m star Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred, Olympic long jump champion Miltiadis Tentoglou and javelin star Anderson Peters.
Other athletes who have booked their places include discus throwers Matthew Denny, Kristjan Čeh and Daniel Ståhl, while Australian middle-distance prospect Cameron Myers, 400m world champion Collen Kebinatshipi and Jamaican triple jumper Jordan Scott will be seeking their first Diamond League titles.
The women’s shot put is the only event with a complete field confirmed so far, featuring Jessica Schilder, Chase Jackson, Fanny Roos, Sarah Mitton, Yemisi Mabry and Daniela Thomas-Dodd.
With three qualification meetings remaining, athletes still chasing points have limited opportunities to force their way into the final field in Brussels.
