Amusan Denied On The Line As Johnson Claims Athlos Glory

Tobi Amusan ended her 2026 season with another second-place finish after she was edged by American Alaysha Johnson in the 100m hurdles at the Athlos meeting at StoneX Stadium in Barnet, London, on Friday.

Amusan, who had been expected to contend strongly for victory following the withdrawal of Olympic and World Ultimate champion Masai Russell, clocked 12.51 seconds to finish second behind Johnson, who won in 12.50.

Bahamian Devynne Charlton finished third in 12.63 seconds.

Amusan was slow out of the blocks and had work to do in the early stages of the race, with Charlton making the fastest start. The Nigerian gradually closed the gap and moved past the Bahamian before launching a late challenge on Johnson.

Amusan appeared to have drawn level with Johnson at the finish, but the American held on by one hundredth of a second to claim victory.

The result gave Johnson her first victory over Amusan in 2026 and her fourth in 23 career head-to-head clashes with the Nigerian.
