Wanda Diamond League: Amusan Moves Top of 100m Hurdles Standings After 12.28 Victory in Paris
Nigeria’s sprint queen Tobi Amusan has surged to the top of the Wanda Diamond League 100m hurdles standings after a blistering 12.28 second victory in Paris.
The 29-year-old reigning Commonwealth Games champion now sits on 21 points, two clear of Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds, who finished eighth in the Paris leg of the 15-meet series.
Olympic champion and current world leader Masai Russell dropped to third in the standings with 18 points.
The Diamond League format ensures that the top eight athletes in each discipline qualify for the season-ending final in Brussels this September.
The winner there will earn a coveted spot in the 100m hurdles at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest, also scheduled for September.
With her Paris triumph, Amusan looks firmly on course to qualify either as Diamond League champion or through her world ranking.
Currently ranked third globally, she remains one of the strongest contenders heading into the decisive months of the season.
