Amusan Rakes In $35,000 For Athlos Second Place
Tobi Amusan earned $35,000 for finishing second in the 100m hurdles at the Athlos meeting at StoneX Stadium in Barnet, London, on Friday.
The 29-year-old Nigerian had been tipped to claim the $65,000 winner’s prize following the withdrawal of Olympic and World Ultimate champion Masai Russell, but she narrowly missed out as American Alaysha Johnson took victory.
Amusan, who made a slow start, produced a strong recovery and appeared to have caught Johnson on the line. However, Johnson was confirmed as the winner in 12.50 seconds, with Amusan second in 12.51. Devynne Charlton was third in 12.63.
The $35,000 payday takes Amusan’s earnings to $110,000 in prize money in just one week.
She earned $75,000 for finishing runner-up to Russell in the 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest last weekend before adding another $35,000 in London.
Amusan will now turn her attention to 2027 and another attempt to reclaim the World outdoor title she won in Eugene in 2022.
The Nigerian lost her crown to Jamaica’s Danielle Williams in 2023 and was unable to regain it at the 2025 World Championships.
With the 2026 season now concluded, Amusan will have her sights set on returning to the top of the global 100m hurdles hierarchy in 2027.
