Amusan, Tiwa Savage, Okonjo-Iweala top list of 100 most influential African women in 2022
Nigeria’s reigning World 100m hurdles champion and record holder, Tobiloba Amusan has been named among the 100 most influential African women in 2022 by Avance Media,
a public relations and rating firm.
Also named among others are singer-songwriter and performing artist, Tiwa Savage and Dr Ngozi Okonko-Iweala, the seventh Director-General of the World Trade
Organisation and notably the first woman and first African to lead the Organization.
Amusan was nominated in the sports category for her incredible and historic record-breaking performances in the 2022 track and field season highlighted by her feat at
the World Athletics Championships, the flagship event of World Athletics.
The 25 year old made history as the first Nigerian, man or woman to win a world title after storming home first (12.06w) in the final of the 100m hurdles at the World
championships in Oregon, USA.
She also made history as the first to set an outdoor world record when she scorched to a 12.12 seconds finish in the semifinals of the 100m hurdles in Oregon.
Amusan is also the first Nigerian track and field athlete to successfully defend a Commonwealth Games title and the first to also win individual gold medasls at two consecutive edtions of the Commonwealth Games.
The ranking of the 100 Most Influential African Women is to highlight and celebrate the astounding accomplishments of 100 women from Africa.
These women have been in one way or the other earnestly inspiring the next generation of leaders in Africa.
