Amusan Wins Paris 100m Hurdles, Shifts Focus to Pre Classic in Eugene

Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan delivered a commanding performance at the Diamond League meet in Paris, winning the women’s 100m hurdles in 12.28 seconds, equaling her season’s best.

Amusan, who previously set the African record at the Stade Charléty in 2022 with 12.41, claimed her 12th career Diamond League victory and her second win in Paris.

The 29-year-old athlete still ranks as the second-fastest in the world this year, behind American Massai Russell’s 12.14 who is closing on the Nigerian’s world record of 12.12.

Reflecting on her race, Amusan admitted she is not fond of warm weather but was determined to perform: ‘I do not like the warm weather at all, but whatever the weather, I was going to come out here and kill it. Execution was alright. I am just happy being injury free.

‘The pressure does not get to me. I have a grace, which is the very strong system around, my Lady and that finish line. So, I am never worried about pressure on the night.’

She explained her varied approach to hurdling, noting that some races feel sloppy yet still produce strong times: ‘My approach to the hurdles varies. Sometimes, you are thinking what has just happened. Other days, it is really sloppy and you still come out and run a fast time. I try to take a shot at every race.’

Amusan confirmed she will next compete at the Prefontaine Classic, with further race plans yet to be decided.
