Amusan Wins Sixth Continental 100m Hurdles Gold, Tabugo Clinches Bronze at 24th African Senior Athletics Championships

Nigeria’s sprint queen, Tobi Amusan, reaffirmed her dominance on Wednesday evening in Accra as she stormed to her sixth continental gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 24th African Senior Athletics Championships.

The 29-year-old world record holder delivered a commanding performance to secure Nigeria’s first gold medal of the competition.

Amusan’s victory makes her only the third woman in history to win three 100m hurdles titles at the Championships.

She also becomes the first athlete to achieve the rare double of winning both the African Championships and African Games gold three times each in the event.

Her triumph in Accra was particularly significant, as she reclaimed the crown she lost two years ago in Cameroon due to illness.

Nigeria’s Adaobi Tabugo also made headlines, clinching bronze in the same event.

Having finished fifth two years ago, Tabugo’s podium finish marks her first individual medal at the Championships, signaling her rise in the continental hurdles scene.

Amusan’s journey continues beyond Accra.

She is scheduled to compete in China at the opening leg of the Wanda Diamond League in Shanghai/Kepao on Saturday.

Just as she reclaimed her African crown, the Nigerian star is now targeting the Diamond League title she lost in 2024 after failing to defend it.
